Laxman Prasad Poudyal is a senior conservation professional with more than three decades of experience in wildlife research, protected-area management, biodiversity conservation, and conservation leadership across Nepal. His career has taken him through the full ecological range of the country—from the Terai grasslands and subtropical forests to the mid-hills and high Himalayan landscapes.
Poudyal holds an MSc in Natural Resource Management and Rural Development and a BSc in Forestry. During his long career with Nepal’s protected-area system, he has served in leadership, ecological, and field-based roles in Shivapuri Nagarjun, Shuklaphanta, Sagarmatha, Chitwan, Makalu Barun, Langtang, and Shey Phoksundo National Parks, as well as the Annapurna Conservation Area. He has served as a Chief Conservation Officer and as an Ecologist with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, giving him extensive experience in protected-area planning and management, wildlife law enforcement, species monitoring, habitat management, conservation education, community engagement, and coordination with national and international organisations.
Poudyal brings a rare combination of field experience, scientific knowledge, institutional understanding, and conservation leadership. He helps guide conservation planning, research priorities, protected-area collaboration, species monitoring, and engagement with government agencies and local communities. His experience strengthens BIOCOS Nepal’s ability to translate field research into practical conservation action and to build effective partnerships for the long-term protection of Nepal’s biodiversity.
