वायोकोश  नेपाल BIOCOS NEPAL

BIOCOS NEPAL was established as a strategic evolution of the former Biodiversity Conservation Society Nepal, transforming earlier initiatives into a more structured, nationally recognized, and permanent institution. Registered as a non-profit sharing company and affiliated with Social Welfare Council, this transition has strengthened our capacity to deliver long-term, science- and community-based conservation programs across Nepal at a national scale. We operate across diverse landscapes—from the lowland Terai to the high Himalayas—cultivating local ownership and long-term environmental stewardship by demonstrating the tangible value of wildlife to local communities.

Our philosophy is simple yet profound: all species are interconnected. We recognize that the loss of a single species can trigger cascading effects across entire ecosystems. To address the growing challenges of global warming, poaching, and habitat degradation, we bridge the gap between high-level research and grassroots community action. By recognizing the interconnectedness of all life, we adopt a strategic focus on key species as a pathway to conserving broader biodiversity. While advocating for ecosystem-wide conservation, we place special emphasis on globally threatened and ecologically significant species—such as the snow leopard, Himalayan musk deer, pheasants, Bengal tiger, and red panda—which serve as indicators of ecosystem health.

Our efforts are concentrated in critical landscapes, including the Annapurna–Dhaulagiri region (a key biological transition zone in the Himalaya), the Everest region, and the vital lowland ecosystems of Chitwan, Bardiya, Shuklaphanta, and Koshi Tappu.

Our success is driven by a dedicated team of conservation biologists and field experts who live and work in the landscapes they protect. This multidisciplinary team adapts programs to the specific ecological needs of each region, using modern technologies and community-led monitoring approaches to ensure sustainable outcomes. By combining scientific rigor with a deep commitment to conservation, BIOCOS NEPAL continues to play a leading role in safeguarding flagship species and securing a future for Nepal’s biodiversity.
